Bespoke web functions, to support more people

Dogs Trust needed a new website dedicated to their Hope Project. This project supports dog owners who are experiencing homelessness.

The website would need to incorporate a number of bespoke functional processes that would allow Dogs Trust to streamline their internal procedures, enabling the charity to help more people and their dogs.

How we helped

The functional processes were extremely complex, so we needed to work closely with the Dogs Trust Hope Team and their IT department, because the website needed to integrate with their database system. This meant evaluating the front website experience and the backend processes, to ensure everything would work together as smoothly as possible.

We held a number of discovery sessions with Dogs Trust, depicting the outputs using wireframes and creating a full technical specification document ahead of beginning the website design.

While the design of the website had to primarily align with the Dogs Trust brand identity, it was also vital to highlight the hope that this project gives to homeless dog owners, assuring them that their dog will be cared for, and they won’t be separated during this difficult time.

Bespoke features

The website incorporates a “Find a dog-friendly homelessness service” feature that allows users to search by postcode, city or town to find dog-friendly services near them. This feature makes use of a postcode look-up function and features an extremely user-friendly design.

The Dogs Trust Hope Project allows users to register their dogs to gain access to free vet care. Bringing this process online was a vital part of the digital transformation that Dogs Trust were looking for as part of this project. The registration process required bespoke development, as it is unique to the Hope Project website. This feature integrates with their internal database system through an API, to allow the website and database to pass user data and offer the user an extremely quick and efficient service.

To better support the needs of users in the areas that the Hope Project supports, the website needed to be available in Cymraeg (Welsh language). A link in the header easily changes the site language, to make it accessible for those who need it.

Delivering hope

The website has seen some extremely encouraging results so far. The website has meant that the administrative processes have been significantly reduced, which will have assisted the Dogs Trust Hope Project Team and benefitted the people and their pets who have needed the support and services.

The team at the Dogs Trust have been thrilled with their experience working with Adept – the support we offered during the project, as well as the website itself. We look forward to working with Dogs Trust in the future to develop the website further, as the Hope Project continues to grow.
