Making Space is a leading charity offering adult health and social care services across the UK, from Cumbria to Cambridgeshire. Their services range from residential homes to supported living and community-based care, providing vital support to people of all ages and abilities. The charity’s main source of income comes from their residential homes and supported living services, with the goal of increasing referrals and enquiries through a more streamlined website user journey.
Making Space
Making Space’s existing website was not optimised to clearly communicate the charity’s services, creating a confusing user journey. Key features, such as the service finder, were not easy to navigate, and information was difficult to locate. The charity needed a new website that would make it easier for users to find services, ultimately driving more referrals and increasing revenue. There was also a desire to reflect the charity’s values and mission, while making the website accessible to diverse audiences, including young carers and commissioners.
Our approach focused on improving the user experience and simplifying the navigation to ensure that users could easily find relevant services. We conducted extensive research and discussions with the charity to identify key website priorities, including showcasing their services, increasing referrals, and communicating their vision of putting wellbeing at the heart of health and social care. We also focused on the need for a more vibrant and engaging design that aligned with their mission while catering to their younger audience.
We developed a custom website solution that centred around a more intuitive service finder and improved user journey. We streamlined the information architecture and simplified the service filtering options to ensure users could easily identify the services available by service user needs, area, and availability.
To enhance the visual appeal and user experience, we developed the website to allow service providers to contribute their own content for their profile pages, allowing for a more personalised touch. The design ensures that different volumes of content can be cohesively presented while remaining engaging. The website’s admin panel provides full control, enabling administrators to easily create, edit, and delete service provider profiles. This allows for seamless management of key information, including both standard details and provider-specific data, ensuring that each profile is kept up-to-date and relevant.
We optimised the fundraising and donation journey by creating templates that allowed Making space to bring more content onto the website, introducing more visually enhanced emotive storytelling, before linking users off to the charity’s bespoke fundraising and payment platform.
The new website has significantly improved the user experience, with easier navigation and a clearer path for users to find services. The streamlined design and improved service finder will help drive revenue growth by making it easier for users to find and connect with the charity’s services.
The templates that we designed to support additional content relating to fundraising, volunteering and donations within the site has also helped further solidify Making Space’s digital presence, providing a seamless experience for users to support the charity’s work. The site now better represents the charity’s mission and values, positioning it for future growth and expansion.
